Biography

As a techno-anthropologist Sandra is interested in the development of new infrastructures. She uses her skills in anthropology to help uncover human and cultural insights, generate empath, and develop impact-oriented solutions.

She is the co-founder of hands.on.matter, an explorative and interdisciplinary collective, immersed in circular material thinking.

Also the co-founder of Nielsen / van der Loo GbR currently developing the circular garment project New Blue.

Developing communities of designers, artists, entrepreneurs, researchers and scientists is fundamental in the emerging circular economies, where a culture shift and a reconnection with our surrounding environment, and the people within it, alongside complex and demanding products, processes and systems are required.

Design is not just about creating new materials but prioritising the use and end-of-life of the product from the outset. To meet this end generating an understanding on the processes of production, use and disposal is key – just as much as understanding and embracing the people within these different steps of the system.
